Old approvals are dormant risk. If an app you used once is exploited years later, an unlimited approval still lets the attacker take that token. Revoking is cheap and quick.
EVM chains (Ethereum, BNB Chain, Base, Robinhood Chain)
- Open your chain's block explorer and find its token approval checker (most explorers have one under "More" or "Tools").
- Connect read-only or paste your address to list every approval.
- Revoke anything unlimited, anything from a contract you do not recognise, and anything you no longer use. Each revoke is a small transaction that sets the allowance to zero.
Solana
Solana token accounts can carry a delegate that may move a set amount. Wallets such as Phantom and Solflare show and revoke delegates in their security settings, and explorers list them on the token-account page. Closing empty token accounts also returns their rent.
A routine that works
- Revoke right after a one-off claim or mint.
- Review all approvals monthly.
- Keep a hot wallet for apps and a cold wallet that never signs approvals.
Before you approve something new, decode it with the signature decoder.
